They've made chronographs since before 1900, and have been the official time keeping company for several Olympics including Carl Lewis’ gold medal performances in L.A. They make some of the most undervalued (sleeper) watches of the 50's and 60's IMO. Longines was founded in 1832 and was not dissolved or suffer bankruptcy because of the quartz revolution like so many watchmakers, but still produced watches including some of the thinnest ever made at the time. Just so we can say this was an educational experience: Once again, my opinion only, as I'm sure there are those who will swear the Tag is the best value watch there is If I decided to chase the Aquaracer, I would look for a second hand model, to bring down to a more realistic value. I don't think Tag can justify the price of it though, and I agree the price is what the market will pay for it, 'fair' value or not. In this case the Tag called to me, the Longines didn't. This is really hard to describe, but is best put by others here who have said buy what 'sings' or 'calls' to you - that's the best way to put it :thumbup1. It also just seemed to feel more solid/substantial and had more 'presence' on my wrist. I tried on the Aquaracer and it felt perfect - it was heavy enough to 'feel' it on the wrist without being an anchor (but then again I am partial to SS/dive watches, so what suits me may be completely wrong for you). However I found it just wore too small on my wrist :001_unsure. I liked the look of the Longines, I believe that like Oris, it is a brand that is slightly 'undervalued' in the market because it doesn't have quite as much recognition to the general public (even though it's a very well established brand), and so is the better value for money watch. Only a personal opinion, not a technical discussion, but I have had the pleasure of trying both watches on (I really should find other things to do in my lunch breaks.). I don't like to drop that kind of dime if I haven't had it in my hands first.Įither way they are both quality watches, but the bottom line is that between the two the Tag Aquaracer is over priced. Make sure you try them out first at your ADs before you start shopping too.

Like I said shop for the one that you like best. I am biased because I own one, and because I have been burned by Tag, however I also would like to point out these two watches you are looking at are quite different in person,or at least I thought so. I do know that mine (my second) 7750 keeps COSC time even thought it's not certified. I have never heard of them using anything beyond a standard ETA movement, although I don't know if Longines does either. I still like several of their designs and may even give them another shot someday.

My friends and I call it the metrosexual watch brand. Tag Heuer has currently got a better name recognition in the world of fashion and media.
